At New City, we want to consciously engage the call upon Jesus’ church to equip the whole church for works of service (Eph 4:12), and to identify, train and raise up workers for the harvest (Matt 9:37-38; 2 Tim 2:1-2). We do those things wherever we can, of course, such as in small groups and so on, but we have also created intentional spaces to make sure we are being faithful in our training.

‘Equip’ Training

Every term we run an ‘equip’ teaching day, focused on something specific and relevant to serving in the body of Christ. For example, we might clarify what ‘ministry’ is, or explore what the Bible teaches about spiritual gifts, or do safe ministry training. These days are designed for everyone in the congregation – all those who Jesus saves are the ‘saints’ of Ephesians 4, and he saves them so as to have them carry out good works in his church.

Ministry Internship

We want to identify and help guide people who are thinking about doing ministry in a more vocational way, and our ministry internship program seeks to do this. Ministry interns learn under the Pastor and other teachers, who will help guide their development by way of mentoring, teaching, equipping, creating ministry opportunities, and discipling. Our goal is to help people clarify their thoughts or their call, and do what we can to prepare them for lives of service to our Lord.
